Well we’ve never had “this” before ... but Lute Olson’s team lost to a 15 seed in 1993, made the Final Four in 1994 and won it all in 1997. Bobby Knight’s team was the first ever to lose to a 14 seed in 1986 and won the title the next year. Boeheim’s team lost to a 15 and has been to multiple Final Fours and won a championship.

This was a horrendously shitty day. If shooters are going to miss all night, what’s a coach to do?

No doubt. It's amazing how consistent the story is with Bennett's teams. They always greatly overachieve and exceed everyone's expectations in the regular season. But then something always goes terribly wrong in the tournament.

Bennett clearly is one helluva coach. His teams play incredible team defense (although less so tonight). He always gets the absolute most out of his talent level (which is generally far less than his blueblooded competition), and his teams play smart and hard as hell.

All of which has equated to tremendous regular season success. Why he can't transfer that to tournament success I don't know.

U.Va. did come back from Chaminade.

I watched three Big West games all year, that was my total viewing experience until last week.

Then I watch Arizona and Virginia and I don't see much difference.

THAT was the number one team in the country??

Did they? 35 years later, they had this, and that’s the high water mark.

Next year certainly won’t be better. Unless Bennett strikes gold in the grad transfer market, they have 6 ACC-level players, and that’s if you take an extremely optimistic view of Jay Huff. They’ll be in the middle of the ACC, and help is not on the way.

Fortunately, UVa has a kid the same size coming in next year.

I understand how you’re feeling, but you know better than this. UVa went to a Final Four after Chaminade. After Sampson even.

And they are preseason Top 5 next year.
