    There is nothing to see here. In the video, in which he says the same thing, there is no dig at anybody. He just says when you step into the arena, these things can happen.

    I think Dick is inserting the beginning of the Teddy Roosevelt quote in his interpretation. The full quote goes: "It is not the critic who counts; not the man who points out how the strong man stumbles, or where the doer of deeds could have done them better. The credit belongs to the man who is actually in the arena, whose face is marred by dust and sweat and blood ... "

    When Paul Ryan cites that quote as inspiration, yes, it means Fuck The Media.

    I seriously, seriously doubt Tony Bennett is going in that direction, or that he even knows the full context of that "in the arena" phrase.
