I strongly suspect that you've never had that talk with your parents.

Taking away your parent's freedom to move, and to a large extent their independence, is an absolute mine field. Even if mom can still drive, if there are keys in the house it is very difficult to prevent him from taking the car. Even if only one of them is having problems you are all but forced to take the keys away. That's perhaps less true if it is Mother who shouldn't be driving anymore.

It can be hellishly difficult.
