Kentucky will blast K State back to 1983. But Darnell Valentine won't be able to help them. Tragically wasted opportunity for the top seeds here.

Ah, thanks. I was looking on Wikipedia to see who they had lost to and it was ambiguous on which games were in Greensboro and which ones were in Raleigh.
Those records also don't include all of the games played in Greenville, S.C. (a frequent first-round site over the years that would probably add seven or eight games to the total, although Duke lost there last year as well).

You do know that Darnell Valentine played for Kansas, not Kansas State, right? Or am I missing some subtle sarcasm?

Nope. I thought Valentine was a Wildcat. Wrongly. So let's update it to Mitch Richmond, whom Curry Kirkpatrick once nicknamed "The Wicked Mitch of the Midwest." Early 1990s I think.

Don't know what you mean by that. Just meant to say -- apparently failed to do so -- that Kentucky will easily defeat Kansas State, which will need to channel a great player from a bygone era to have a chance.

Found a rulebook online (thanks Harvard), it would have been two shots, no ball. FSU would have indounded with 3 seconds left

Mitch Richmond was 1988. By the early '90s he was Run-TMC at Golden State.

No, Mitch Richmond is a pretty good pull, but the guy you probably have in mind was Rolando Blackman, who was a legend on some really good K-State teams in the late '70s, early '80s.

Absolutely hate how camera gives coaches so much screen time and lus how the coaches micro manage every pass. The KSU- MDBC game, you’d have thought Weber was the only reason to tune it. Sickening. Great effort by MDBC, too bad couldn’t make FTs or a 3.

In college coaches micromanage too much at times, but UMBC needed it. They had a stretch of not scoring for about 5 minutes and they weren't even getting shots off before
turning the ball over on some possessions. Some of the talk when UVA lost was how
they had such little offense. But UMBC scored 51 points in the 2nd half of that game.
Their offense vs K State at times looked like a playground pickup game. The announcers
were gushing over their hustle when they avoided a backcourt violation, but it was nearly
backcourt due to some bad passes.
