It may be more noticeable in college basketball to you, but it exists in all sports. Look at the (I admit pathetic) banners the Colts put up in Lucas Oil. If the Phillies make the playoffs this year (they won't), this fan would regard it as a spectacular season even if they were swept in the first round or lost the wild card game. Making the tournament is seen as an accomplishment by all but the top dynastic elite programs, and not wrongly.

The Oakland A’s continue to celebrate the Sabermetric Series they won in 2002.

Not going to a Texas Deathmatch over it, but it was an open 22 footer taken by Jarius Lyles, their (best?) player. Down by 5, with 53 seconds to go.
The Retrievers didn't hit shit the whole second half, and weren't getting good looks (or any looks, KSU was stealing the ball like madmen).

Just seems a cheap comment in hindsight, and I see it all the time.

College baseball is getting there. The World Series in Omaha; the regional finals.

College hockey has the Frozen Four.

I was thinking that when they didn't hit shit those guys were still going gaga over their hustle. At times, Maura looked like a hs kid trying to go against college guys,
not a good handle and some bad passes. Guess KSU's defense deserves some credit, but thought UMBC looked pretty sloppy.

Getting to the CFP seems to apply here, too.

The Frozen Four is a great event, but since there are only 16 teams in the tournament, schools don't make that big a deal out of making it. At least the Boston schools don't.

Even Northeastern? Not like they make it often.

btw, the trend towards short(er) shorts looks good on the men, and great on the women.
