RIP Bozo the Clown (Boston edition)

Frank Avruch, who played Bozo the Clown in Boston in the 1960s, dead at 89.
I swear I saw this and thought it was the WGN clown, but apparently the Bozo name is like Smith in the clown world.

I was expecting to read that Dan Shaughnessy had passed away.

 

Bozo was licensed to local markets.

 

Bozo has better hair, for starters.

 

I thought there was only one Bozo - the Chicago version - as well.

Now I can't get the Boston-accented Bozo out of my head.

"Hey kids, who's ready to have some wicked fun?"

 

Never heard of him.

 

As my grandparents lived in Boston, I was taken to a taping of the Bozo show. Little wonder I pursued a career in media.

 

I guess it was like "Romper Room" - I'm glad when you're a little kid you don't travel much, because I could only imagine the trauma of realizing there are "other" Miss Nancys and Bozos.
And I figure every market had an afternoon cartoons host of some kind.....
