If BG fired him, I wonder why. Wikipedia doesn't say, but does say he was conference coach of the year.

Heh. People here won't even concede "meteor wiping out life on Earth tomorrow" a bigger upset than the hockey game. ;)

Of all the manifestations of your Russia fetish, not conceding that was an upset is top of the list.

But we can agree that "USSR wins 1972 basketball gold medal" was a bigger screw job than "meteor wiping out all life tomorrow" would be an upset.

Where did I "not concede" it was an upset? For someone who demands language accuracy, that was a monster swing and a miss.

I simply jokingly implied nothing would ever knock it down to No. 2 in some people's eyes. It's still No. 1 in mine, BTW.

And the nerve it touches seems to back me up. ;) (that's a wink)

I'm not trying to shit on him, it's just all part of what makes this tournament what it is. Gene Keady and Norm Stewart had fantastic careers. If the Elite 8 got together at one location for the final playoff the way they do for the College World Series, they'd be viewed as all-time greats. Instead they are the guys who couldn't get to the Final Four.

Frank Martin was banned from coaching high school ball in Florida. In the span of two weeks he ensured his obit will lede with "...led South Carolina to the Final Four..."

It's all part of what makes this so compelling.

I kind of see that, but most of me doesn't. For instance, I had forgotten Frank Martin existed.

This Mich-FSU game is pretty much shit. Close game but shit. Nova-WVU was close at the half, but was a good game.
The defense in Mich-FSU is not great. Wide-open 3 just hit off the rim. Nova and WVU guys were hitting 3's with a hand
in the face. I know the NCAA pays big money for the TV contract, but the announcers could be a little honest.

If Loyola wins the whole thing, all Mid-Majors will be sent to the NIT next season. Screw the conference champion thing, *that* won't be allowed to happen again.

Why would it not be allowed to happen again? If Michigan wins three of the Final Four teams will be a 3 seed or better. George Mason and VCU made the Final Four.
Every so many years a mid-major or small school will make a run.
