Wasn't the whole thing some razor-sharp parody of the day? Something about the gold standard or the robber barons or somesuch?

I heard some story that Baum had to tell some kids a story at a library and came up with OZ by looking at a card catalog marked O-Z.

Only the Brave is worth a look. Didn't do too well in theaters but is a serious upgrade from Howie Long's "Firestorm." Great cast - Brolin, Bridges, Connolly, Miles Teller and Taylor Kitsch.

  5. OMG ... Firestorm.
On our honeymoon cruise that movie played on continuous loop in our cabin. Fucking terrible.

Or should I say, it was terrible to fuck to! ;)

I watched "The Sandlot 2" last night. James Earl Jones must be running out of money. I think they used the same script as the first one.

Just because we should never, ever forget that Firestorm exists ...

What's crazy is that everyone knew that was a stinker from the jump. I'm guessing movies was part of his original Fox deal, whether he could act or not.
Real fun fact: Howie Long played Tom Hanks "close personal friend" in That Thing You Do.

I always figured Firestorm flowed out of his performance as John Travolta's main henchman in Broken Arrow. He actually was pretty good in that and might have been able to have a decent movie career by sticking to those types of supporting roles. Someone just pushed him up the ladder way too soon.

To expand on that: His scenes were cut from the theatrical release, but restored in the extended cut that came with the movies DVD a few years ago.

I also remember he was in "3000 Miles to Graceland" with Kevin Costner, Kurt Russell and that cute Cox-Arquette couple when they were still married.

  12. TB and JB and the NFL Fox crew gave him a lot shit over that movie when it came out.
