Older lady behind me in line at the store had a single item to buy. I had more than a few items, so I let her go ahead of me. She begins chatting up the guy in front of me to get his promotion prize tickets then has to count out exact change for a 50-something-cent bag. The worst part was there were open self-checkout lines she could have used.

You should've gone Michael Bennett on her.

How is a bag only 50-something cents? The canvas reusable bags?

I'll use the self-checkout lanes if I'm in a real hurry . . . like if I'm on fire and need to find the nearest lake. Otherwise my attitude is, if I wanted to run the register at Home Depot, I'd apply for a job there.

They're daring you at some stores -- use self-checkout and get on with your life, or risk losing a big chunk of your weekend by visiting completely inept Denise at register 2. Happy shopping!

Sidearm Sports college sites with annoying pop-up message that says:

"Thanks for visiting shitsvillesnakes.com! Looks like you might have an Ad Blocker enabled. Please whitelist shitsvillesnakes.com to ensure that you are receiving the fully uncompromised interactive experience."

Fuck your interactive experience, just give me the goods and get off my porch.

Recent experience with the 10-items-or-less lane at a Publix in South Florida. I was fifth in the only line open:

First in line was a woman with at least 15 items. Checkout clerk did nothing about it.

Next guy had only five items or so but wanted to buy cigarettes. He requested a brand (something like Tareyton or Lucky Strike) that went out of fashion about 40 years ago. Clerk searched for a few minutes and determined they didn't have any. The guy purchased the other items and walked away mad.

Next was a 60-ish woman with a New York accent who decided to haggle over the price of something she insisted was on sale. The manager had to intervene.

Next, the guy in front of me didn't know how to use his debit card and had technical difficulties. Took a few minutes to work that out.

Finally, it was my turn. Took about 30 seconds after spending at least 10 minutes in line.

My attitude is: I've finished shopping now what is the fastest way to pay for these goods and get out of here.

I'm with you on this. ... Which is why 9.8 times out of 10 I am using self checkout (when it is an option. ... a lot of places in the cities I spend my time in don't have that option).

We normally grocery shop at Albertson's, but I was in a Ralph's last week. I went to the 15-item lane and noticed that the sign said "About 15 items." Never saw that before.

The options at Walmart are: use the self-checkout and be out in three minutes or go to one of the four open registers (among the 36 available) and take 15 minutes to check out.
