For all the crassness of Roseanne's humor, there really is a lot of "heart" to the show. I remember the first Halloween episode when DJ wanted to be a witch, something the first episodes of the reboot kind of mimicked.

I do find it amusing that righties are hailing the numbers. The character and actress may be a Trumper, but the show doesn't exactly do Trump any favors considering one kid lives at home with her and another is selling her eggs to afford a house. Not exactly MAGA.

Enjoying the Roseanne revival. Dan and Roseanne haven't missed a beat.

Just watched the Season 3 opener of Billions. As good as ever.

Roseanne’s funny. Its not about Trump. They marketed it a lot and there were a lot of “Roseanne supports Trump!” headlines online. Maybe that got some people to check it out but I contend its the nostaglia.

Show was in the top 6 for way too long in its heyday not to do a big number. I dont think many other revivals were as huge as Roseanne was in its prime. Plus John Goodman and Laurie Metcalf are so damn talented....that’s what got me to tune in

Pretty crazy talented group behind the scenes. Whitney Cummings, Wanda Sykes, Norm McDonald.

Twenty years later drawing 18 mil is considered outstanding, Lowest premiere in the series history. That it stayed so strong through nine seasons despite the behind the scenes drama with Roseanne and the writers is pretty amazing.

Plus, they came back to actually tackle some new shit, instead of just relying on the nostalgia. It's the opposite of Will and Grace, or Fuller House, I imagine. (Haven't seen the latter.)

Absolutely. And I think its more like if Cheers, Fraser, Seinfeld or Friends did a reuinion than Will and Grade or Heroes or Prison Break. People forgot how massive Roseanne was 25 years ago

  8. Watched the first two Roseanne episodes. Pleasantly surprised by how funny they were. Feels, in many ways, like a new show.

"Roseanne" was always a good show -- funny, dramatic, light-hearted, hard-hitting, cutting-edge, and yet, relatable, relevant, and even, at times, poignant, all within the same half-hour span of time.

And it will be again, because the writing and the cast and the chemistry are so good. The reboot wasn't about Trump, just about re-establishing that strength and relevance as a show -- in its own, current right.

I thought that was a great casting choice for that story line. If I remember I will watch again and start recording it if it grabs me. I see one conservative--whol or kirk or one of those...has written a review criticizing Roseanne because she is ultimately a white working class democrat and not a true conservative. (of course some of those voted for trump) I should have posted it here and will if I run across it.

I went into this expecting to hate it, mainly because I hate reboots and I'm so God damned tired of the commercials for this being everywhere. Yes, yes. You have a loud laugh. Hooray for us all. And then when they started in with Trump shit I thought, "here we go." Then they tip-toed around the subject and I was left disappointed that they didn't have a real conversation like they did when Jackie left the abusive boyfriend, or when she and Jackie broke into their old house only to reminisce about what a monster their father was.

Then I watched the second episode. If they're going to address topics, such as a son-grandson who wants to dress and be different, like they did in that episode - the way they used to on this show 25 years ago - I'll be making an appointment to watch weekly and I don't give a damn who she voted for. Even the conversation with Becky about how she was selling eggs so she could have some financial freedom was pretty good by live-in-front-of-audience sitcom standards.
