    There are campaign finance issues. If the lawyer gave $130,000 to benefit Trump's campaign for president, and Trump knew about it (even if he didn't know about it, although then it becomes a matter of culpability, not the violation), it exceeds the limit by more than $127,000. They backed themselves into a corner. The timing is what hurts them. They apparently knew about her for years. ... yet days before the election, the lawyer made what could be argued is an in-kind campaign contribution to shut her up.

    The lawyer is ridiculously claiming that he did this without Trump knowing. The porn star's lawyer is going to press that to the wall if he can keep it in a court rather than arbitration. Either way, this could mean problems. This could shake out in two ways that aren't good for them: 1) the lawyer is dealing with some potential ethics problems that the Bar association might have a few things to say about, and at the same time he made an in-kind campaign contribution that violates FEC limits, or 2) The lawyer was working with Trump's knowledge (and is lying publicly), in which case Trump knowingly violated campaign finance law. With Robert Mueller looming over the douchebag, it means. ... lie, lie, lie and look ridiculous when you start contradicting your own lies.
