Here's the story of St. Ignatius' connection with wolves, in case anyone (like me) was wondering: The legend of the Wolf and Kettle: Wolf and Kettle Day: Loyola University Chicago

The legend of the Wolf and Kettle
    Celebrate generosity
Many years ago, in the Basque country of Spain, there lived a prosperous and generous family who, after feeding family, retainers, and soldiers, had enough to feed even the wild animals. To commemorate this act of generosity, a carving of two wolves eating at a cauldron was placed over the lintel of the family’s home in Loyola, Spain.

Many centuries later, St. Ignatius of Loyola would be born into this family and would go on to establish the Jesuit order and change the world. Today, we celebrate this act of generosity, which has become the heraldic shield of the Loyola family, the symbol of this University, and a fitting tribute to our donors, whose generosity makes your education possible at Loyola.

I saw on the ESPN crawl a moment ago that UCLA freshman Jaylen Hands has declared for the draft without hiring an agent. So, I wondered, who is this fellow? Averaged 10 points a game and finished his one and presumably only college campaign with point totals of 4, 6, 2, DNP and 6 over the final few games. Agent or no, I'm guessing he is getting bad advice.

Steven Adams averaged seven points and six rebounds his only season at Pitt. Maybe the drop in production at the end is why he wants out.

    Damn.
I'll be curious to see how many more top prospects take the G League route. It has to be about the shoe money. Otherwise not worth it.

    $26k for five months work.

Shouldn't a player have a shot at being drafted in order to say they are declaring for the draft. Really, they're just quitting school.

Which of these scenarios makes this guy a better 2019 draft prospect:
    1) Averages 12 points and 6 rebounds in 30 minutes a game for Syracuse
    2) Averages 6 points and 3 rebounds in 18 minutes a game in the G League
If we are to believe the talk about the G League, its competition is far tougher than college ball. This one is going to be fascinating. And possibly trend-setting.

Which gets him a better shoe deal?
I think college programs have a bigger incentive to make a player look good. Considering G-League teams are operated by specific teams, they might find it to their advantage to bury a player.

But now he's allowed to hire an agent, who'll assuredly offer a generous "loan" in exchange for his business.

I don't think 26K accurately reflects how much cash the kid will be carrying this year.

Maybe a hundred grand for a shoe deal? Non-lottery picks first rounders are lucky to get $50k cash plus their shoes and gear for free.

Andy Landers, speaking about Notre Dame at halftime of the women's Final Four game against UConn:
"When they were doing well, they were getting their fingers on a lot of balls."
