Boston site will have the Globe’s Fluto Shinzawa on the Bruins, MassLive.com’s Jen McCaffrey and the Herald’s Chad Jennings on the Sox, and MassLive.com’s Jay King on the Celtics, per the Globe’s Chad Finn.
Howe isn’t confirmed, but I’d be shocked if it’s not him.
Also curious to see how those jobs will be filled, they’re all pretty high profile.

The Times will probably pick up Erlendson, who is still floating around, or Roy Cummings, who used to cover the Lightning years ago. Both would be good picks for them.

If Mooney doesn’t take the Athletic they might look outside the market. The only other regular writers around here are Chastain and J Scott from MLB and neither of them fits the Athletic’s mold. Chastain is probably close to retirement and Scott doesn’t cover the Rays specifically or do anything to build up his social media following.

I’m surprised Fluto is going. Wondering if the Globe will hire anyone to replace him. They never replaced Amalie Benjamin and just threw Dupes back on the beat.

Good for Howe for landing somewhere so quickly.

If you took a job at a print publication these days, could you get a guarantee that you would avoid layoffs for at least a year?

I'd ask for a contract. Wouldn't get it, but fair is fair. And the employees aren't trustworthy anymore.

Would love to see Roger get back on the Rays beat full-time.

Don’t think he got let go at the Herald and left on his own, hoping for more stability. Wonder if they’ll replace him or just let Karen Gureigan handle all the football.

The Times editor is a little newer if I'm not mistaken so I doubt he's going to hire any old Tribune guys to fill an open job on that staff. Mooney will be doing Lightning at least through the draft is my guess and maybe longer.

As for the Athletic and their Rays coverage. I wonder if they will have a guy by the April 2 launch. I'm assuming they will but if they were all in on Topkin without a Plan B they are cutting it close.

What's with the teasers on twitter? Is joining the Athletic treated like an actor tweeting about his next role or a musician hinting at an album
coming out? People reading twitter get hyped reading those tweets?

The Times hasn't had an Exec Editor since Neil Brown left for Poynter in September.
It's a collab. Tash is never far away, though, and Neil's just a few blocks away. When Neil left, I thought Mike Wilson returning from Dallas was a no-brainer. Now? I can't imagine they're in any kind of outside-hiring mode for the EE job or any other.
