Again ... Wrestling is scripted and choreographed. It's not any more "fake" than General Hospital. There is a difference.

This is a strange distinction you wrestling fans are trying to draw here. When people say it’s fake, they mean it is “scripted and choreographed.” They are distinguishing it from other sports, which are not scripted and choreographed.

    What is the objection here?

Is General Hospital a "sport"? If not, then neither is Pro Wrestling.

Which means it doesn't belong in this discussion.

When Denny retires, I'll give eight seconds of dead air between every sentence I utter in his honor.

Between those glorious pauses, I can still see young board operators all over the midwest sprinting into the studio thinking that they missed a break, but it was just Denny being Denny.

I miss baseball announcers who could spend a couple of innings telling a story between pitches.

Batman’s Vin Scully post seems appropriate here.

It's not a sport, but the performers certainly are athletes.

Plus it has a unique past in that it used to be treated as a semi-sport, and is still regulated by athletic commissions in a number of states. The regulation depends on the state, ranging from the commissions merely collecting their fees and then sitting back and enjoying the show to regulating/approving certain moves, use of blood, and other things.

So, in a way, it's very much like General Hospital, but it's also in its own unique niche.

Funny thing is, I started reading this post with the mindset that I'm gonna really rip into it. But then I realized it was actually kinda interesting and informative.

Instead I felt forced to begrudgingly give it a like. Well done, Baron.

Gymnastics is basically scripted and choreographed, and they give out Olympic medals for it.
