I read somewhere that Woods did agree to be interviewed, but the conditions were so draconian, the authors told him to stick it.

As others have pointed out here, sometimes it takes an outsider. Fresh perspective, no relationships to maintain, the honesty that comes with distance.

Right. He said he would agree to it as long as he knew who they had spoken to and what those people had said and also wanted the questions ahead of time. So, as far As I’m concerned, he refused to be interviewed.

I'm as big of a fanboy of Tiger (the player) there is, but can say the book is outstanding. And very fair. Every damning story is backed up by research/interviews/court papers, whatever, whether the treatment of the first girlfriend and his first lawyer, or the made-up story from the playground from his first day of school or the affairs. What makes the book good is that they also lay out how and why he was like that (the insane upbringing), without excusing it. But there are also dozens of pages devoted simply to the golfing genius, and rightly so, since it's that part of him that made us so eager to learn about the rest of him.

Yeah, last time I checked, Armen Keteyian had made his bones as a reporter and a writer. Decades ago.

I guess Gay Talese's profile of Joe DiMaggio sucked too since he was never on the baseball beat.

    This is a fair point.

I very much would have loved to have been a fly on the wall in the locker room when Woods/Mickelson were settling their bets from Couples/Pieters.

If all the guys I'd want to be my partner against Tiger and Phil, Freddie would be close to the top of the list. He's a former champion who can still play when healthy and he's never ever heard the word anxiety.
PS: Of course that assumes Tiger and Phil were partners. Maybe they weren't.

Precisely. Golf writers and NASCAR writers lead the world in advocating for the stuff they cover. The national golf media and CBS will be cheering so hard for Tiger.

Many, many fact errors in that book, and simple stuff like the names of tournaments. Also the rookie mistake of confusing the PGA Tour with the PGA of America. Keteyian should be better than that.
