A boomer hears this and immediately counterproposes a 50% benefits increase for them and a 75% cut for you.

Everyone should pay for it, according to the various levels of affluence that society has afforded them.

It's not just Ryan, although he is a craven pussy for certain. Utter gutlessness is the order of the day for so many on the right (and some on the left) and has gotten much worse the last two years.

In particular, I love Mitt Romney siding with Trump on tariffs last week. Did any presidential candidate have worse political instincts than Mittens?

It’s pretty crazy. I’m 55 ... depending on the calculator I use (and how honest I am about my alcohol intake) I’m projected to be around another 30+ years. If I retire at 62 and live to that calculated expectancy, I’ll have been contributing only 1.54 years for every year I’ll be drawing!

The Republicans around these here parts must be so proud of their party!

Why don’t we take a step back and contemplate what Americans, and the world, are witnessing?

Early Monday morning, F.B.I. agents raided the New York office, home and hotel room of the personal lawyer for the president of the United States. They seized evidence of possible federal crimes — including bank fraud, wire fraud and campaign finance violations related to payoffs made to women, including a porn actress, who say they had affairs with the president before he took office and were paid off and intimidated into silence.

That evening the president surrounded himself with the top American military officials and launched unbidden into a tirade against the top American law enforcement officials — officials of his own government — accusing them of “an attack on our country.”

Oh, also: The Times reported Monday evening that investigators were examining a $150,000 donation to the president’s personal foundation from a Ukrainian steel magnate, given during the American presidential campaign in exchange for a 20-minute video appearance.

Meanwhile, the president’s former campaign chairman is under indictment, and his former national security adviser has pleaded guilty to lying to investigators. His son-in-law and other associates are also under investigation.

This is your president, ladies and gentlemen. This is how Donald Trump does business, and these are the kinds of people he surrounds himself with.

I disagree, but that’s really beside the point.

He was ruined for good with how he handled Trump. Both the wishy-washiness and the total capitulation.

As surprised as I was that Trump won, I’m certain he wouldn’t have won had he not declared SS/Medicare to be off-limits (not that any such declaration meant the first fucking thing, mind you). Ryan, who clearly wouldn’t say such, wasn’t going to be much of a sell to those goobers who got bigly behind Trump, which means that he’d never move Michigan, Wisconsin, etc. to the red column. And there’s no way in hell he’d carry a battleground state.

There just aren’t 270+ electoral votes for someone like him, a free(er)-market guy who’s something of an entitlement wonk. He’d have his base states, but beyond those there wouldn’t be much room to grow.
