Almost an understatement. Paxton conducted a Monday morning massacre the very day it took over and fired 81 people. They were even escorted out of the building by security.

And they kept right on firing people.

When a person is hired nowadays they have to sign more documents and go to more meetings and watch more videos and dot more i's and cross more t's than ever before. However you get laid off and you get booted out the door and they don't even let you grab your belongings. I wonder if somebody could sue if they got escorted out the door and had medication in their desk drawers and had a seizure or something because they got escorted out the door so abruptly. Sue them, people!

I am checking in on this, I guess Durham still publishes under a separate masthead? Durham was down to 35 staffers anyway. How much content exclusive Durham content is there? Is there actually a separate Durham paper or is it just the Raleigh paper under a separate masthead?

I ask because I think this is a look at the future of newspapers in America.

I don't think it wa sa Monday morning massacre. I thought I read it happened after lunch. The new ownership took over and had a welcome to our company meeting first thing Monday morning. When people came back from lunch the victims had already been selected. Security was there to allow them to retrieve their things before being marched off.

They are separate papers with a lot of shared content. The Herald puts Durham stories out front and only carries some of the material that's in the N&O. It also clearly has an earlier deadline because there are some Durham stories from early evening that get published online and make the N&O but don't make the Herald for a day or two.

It's not just the N&O with a swapout of the masthead, but if you buy both papers there is a good deal of content overlap.

I think it's obvious that McClatchy is only going to keep the Herald alive for a few years and then absorb it into the N&O.

How many staffers does Durham have left?

As long as revenues continue to decline staffs will be cut. At what point the amount of content that Durham produce will not be enough to justify a separate amsthead.is the content produced by Durham enough to justify a separate masthead.

And if McClatchy is doing this to Raleigh and Durham I think Gatehouse will do the same to Canton and Akron.
