Passan's scouts said Ohtani is not ready.

Ohtani has proven beyond a shadow of a doubt he's ready, at the plate and on the bump.

Dick says it's still too early for anyone to say "proven beyond a shadow of a doubt".

Not sure Dick has given a benchmark for when "too early" falls off the table.

Baseball Prospectus said Matt Davidson would have a .681 OPS this year. Matt Davidson currently has a 1.082 OPS. He is tied for the American League home run lead.

Has Baseball Prospectus been proven spectacularly wrong about Matt Davidson?

The bolded part is bullshit and has nothing to do with anything he has tried to argue. I disagree with Poin, but at least he's staying on point and arguing the actual argument.

Of course this is wrong. He took the opinion of 8 idiot scouts, who probably should be fired, and labeled it as The verdict. Not a verdict. The verdict.

I'm not sure what you do for a living, but in passan's profession, words have meaning. Let me spell it out for you. If he would have said a verdict had been reached, he could have attributed that verdict to the eight Scouts. But he said the verdict has been reached. He is drawing a conclusion that the definitive verdict on ohtani has been reached. He is opining that the eight scout's verdict is the verdict.

Go back and read his mea culpa column, Dick. He specifically talks about his opinion being wrong. Quit being so obstinate on something you are clearly wrong about.

    OK. The verdict.

If you're going to rant about people using small sample sizes, why defend a report that relied on small sample sizes. If somewhere in all this, he acknowledged that flaw in the initial reporting, he'd be fine, but Dickie isn't doing that.

That he has no issue with one use of a small sample size while he rants on and on about it in another instance is absolutely relevant to the discussion.

    I win.

    Consistently.

    Almost without exception.

He is opining that it is the verdict of scouts, not the verdict of one Jeff Passan.

    Ohtani?

    2 starts?

    26 at bats?

If scouts watch ohtani play and question whether he is a major league talent, then they seriously should be fired. If you are on the couch or in the stands and watch ohtani play and can't decide whether he is a major league talent, you need to rethink your judgments about what you think you know about Major League Baseball.

    Same thing with Matt Davidson?
