He is probably the biggest reason the Pirates are off to a good start. They needed the PED user to bounce back big and he has done that so far. He is even hitting for power again. Maybe he found an enhancer that is harder to catch when they test him.

Imagine what they would look like if they hadn't sold off the ace of their pitching staff in the prime of his career and given away McCutchen for scraps.

It still is. The old ballpark (the smallest in the majors for a time) is now part of Uniprix Stadium, a tennis stadium. You can see it here:

And, while I'm on an Expos stadium jag, this is a rendering of Labatt Park, the stadium they were going to build before Loria sold out and went on to destroy the Marlins. It would have been awesome.

Some sabermetrics on my 29-year-old 12-year-old Little League ball, homies. Little League has flipped. Suck it, etc.

Hey, the Phillies are 9-5. Give him some series against the Reds and Rays and Gabe Kapler morphs into John McGraw.

You were 1-3, pal. Musta been a terrible year.

How was it covering McGraw, anyway?

    Joking.

Wasn't so bad. Wearing my straw hat in the summer in the press box was the hard part.

I admire your consistency. Even back then you didn't care about RBI.

The genesis of Dick's deemphasis of wins as an indicator of pitching quality.

    Counterpoint: winners win.
