More fallout. I wonder where we as journalists fall on this.
Effective immediately, USA Wrestling will require media covering federation-sponsored events to undergo background checks.

Has there been an issue of working journalists involved in youth sports sexual abuse?

Was Bill Conlin ever involved in youth sports?

Not that I ever heard of. The allegations around him involved family and friends of family.

I know of several older sportswriters who ogled, tried to date and, in one case, eventually married the high school athletes they covered.

Not the same thing, of course, but plenty creepy and disconcerting.

How much older ... asking for this guy I know who was covering high schools when he was 21 and he had a bit of a thing for* this senior point guard at one of the schools he covered and ...

He was in his late 40s.

I tend to think somewhere around 23 is the ceiling for lusting after high school girls.

I'm sure it has happened and still does.
It's interesting, though, that all of the current news around sexual abuse in youth sports has to do with coaches, medical staff and administrators who either abused athletes or turned a blind eye to abuse.
Yet USA Wrestling is worried about journalists.

Always found it interesting when I was an education reporter that I was never required to have a background check done considering how often I was in schools.

I think USA Wrestling could be doing this as a way to (a) be thorough (b) throw a big "fuck you" to the people blowing the lid off of its shitty misdeeds.
