This is an excellent post which I have no idea is correct or not. It is beyond dispute that the Saints paid a high price for Davenport. But it's a bargain if they're right about him, and they could be.

 

My favorite was when someone bitched that we were talking about the Bears on the Matt Forte retirement thread.

 

True dat. Limited amount of video I saw of Davenport, he was absolutely dominant. But ... It was highlight videos against Conference USA opposition, and there's probably a reason he ended up at UTSA and not, say, Texas. I just haven't taken the time to dig into it.

 

I'm just happy when Bears fans talk about anything related to their team other than the '85 Bears.

 

Man, what a team. I remember the shutout win over the Cowboys like it was yesterday. And the shutout win over the Falcons. And the Giants. And the Rams.

 

I mentioned this here, but a couple weeks ago, I was waiting for the elevator at work. The doors open. Standing there is none other than "Danimal," Dan Hampton!

 

Also, my dad pissed next to Walter Payton at the auto show about 30 years ago.

 

I mean, I get how arrested development happens in human beings and how smaller markets get caught up in deifying one team or era, but it's such a strange thing for a veritable metropolis to base its civic pride on a 33-year-old football team coached by two jackasses.

 

At Super Bowl XX, Hampton became one of my favorite all time interviews when he said he didn't like the Super Bowl Shuffle video because it was "pretentious." We wound up talking about rock music for 15 minutes.

 

Transcendent team. They tend to be venerated. Especially when the franchise doesn’t come close to replicating the success.

 

They have a rival in the early 1970's Knicks teams.
