If South Korea’s foreign minister is giving credit to Trump, then Gee and Ragu might want to consider giving him some credit too.

They were bankrupting themselves by an inefficient system + some horrible Gorbachev "reforms" (that word is poison to Russians). Obviously a gradual shift to a more capitalistic system (the China model) would have sustained the USSR quite nicely. But it demanded a strong leader who didn't exist, and there was too much infighting among the power brokers and too much corruption. When things did fall, the capitalism floodgates opened wide (way too much, way too quickly), and the state's riches were plundered.

Raving American lunatic president does not equal global diplomacy, though Kim appears to have folded his cards for now. That might be a reaction to Trump, but that doesn't mean he has earned credit as The Great Peacemaker.

Meanwhile, Trump is destroying relationships with trusted European allies, at least for now. It's a dangerous game.

Kim has not folded his cards. He's just using the carrot part of the carrot-stick approach to diplomacy. Both Koreas, as well as every other country on earth, knows that the way to manipulate Trump is with extreme flattery. In this case, Trump's desire to do something, anything, big big big is also useful to the Koreas. It was also useful to world peace, so it's a good thing it exists. But wars are also big things.

I just want to know how far Un's motorcade traveled with the bodyguards running alongside the car.
