They obviously feel they couldn’t get Mayfield at 4. They also might not want to take a RB that high knowing they have 2 picks at the top of the second round.

I don't think the story says what the headline says.

I didn't see anything in there that said the airport conversation was the deciding factor.

Well, I guess technically the headline doesn't link the two events -- it just says one came after the other. But it implies the conversation was what made Highsmith decide not to take Rosen.

Women's volleyball starts slightly before football season starts, and ends before football season ends. When did this airport conversation occur?
On the other hand, getting a non-answer from that coach does speak volumes. Years ago, I was getting a new boss and I bumped into a colleague from his former paper. I asked the guy about him. His answer was: "Uh, no comment. You'll find out for yourself." The new guy was a first-class asshole who almost destroyed the department.

Sure seems like there is a lot of back-filling to build support for the Mayfield pick. Mayfield's agent is 80-years old.

I dont think they can develop qbs. Without Boldin, Flacco struggled mightily. He's gonna stay in Vick form if pocket awareness doesn't grow.

Its crazy reading about some of the Baker Mayfield stuff. That he was seen as a second-rounder the last time he played and steadily moved up through the pre-draft process. These scouts realize the game is played on the field right? I have less faith than ever of the NFL's ability to assess the QB position.
If he plays and craps the bed this year - or has off-field issues - they need to dump the GM immediately.

    Curious what you're reading.
It seemed fairly widely projected he was a first rounder by December.

You might want to give him more than one season. There are quite a few Hall of Famers who had pretty ugly rookie years. Not saying Mayfield is Canton material, but one year is way too early to decide a QB can't play.

It just irritates me when I hear about people glowing about how well an athlete interviews or whatever. Yes, the QB is the face of a franchise - I'm just surprised that that it was that stuff that won people over. It wasn't like Mayfield struggled on the field last season.
