Well, it's in the essay. Write before the notable paragraph.

As one of those passive-aggressive introverts, this is pretty damn spot on.

And this is where you nail it:

Otherwise they hold a lot back. A lot. As a protest, as a critique, as a sense of protection,

We're convinced that by disapproving but not denouncing, we're making our point politely. Instead, we create vacuums. In our personal relationships. In our society. In our political system.

OMG, the GF is already working on her costume -- in fucking May -- and trying to get me to come up with one.

That doesn’t make for productive adults.

'Adult' Halloween costumes are alright into your mid-20s.
Once you start hitting 28-29, it's time to put it aside.

Basically it breaks down like this:
Pres-school through about fifth grade = Halloween costumes cool
From sixth grade through high school = Halloween costumes not cool
College through about 27 yo = Halloween costumes cool in a Halloween party setting
28 yo and older = Halloween costumes not cool

Feel free to print that out, laminate it and stick it in your wallet.

And yet, they are productive adults.

As much as any other arbitrary demographic, I guess.

That article is written by a white man.
White men are not allowed to discuss cultural appropriation.
Their role is solely to shut up and listen when chastised for violations.
Hence your link is invalid on its face.
