Turns out Reddy didn't have an axe to grind. He had a tooth to pull.

Reilly gets hired, and Skipper gets a new job.

    It pays to fail.

Wish I could fail like this

Nope, that wasn't it. Although this just further cements my belief that the Athletic will run out of money even faster now.

I've only followed the whole Athletic thing from a distance. I would like to see it succeed. Have to say, the Reilly hiring does not fill me with hope.

Is he actually being hired? Or is he just “contributing” and so being paid on a per article basis?

Considering they're paying Gammons, Reilly and all the contributors between $200 - $500 per 1,000 words or more column, it will be a long time before they run out of money based on these hires.

Seriously? That's the steal of the century.

Reilly can still bring it at times -- that golf column had its groaners but the Greller-Spieth dialogue was pretty good. I just can't get his "I got it first on Twitter!" ESPN TV career out of my head now.
