Have any of y’all had your tonsils removed in later years? How intense is the surgery? How much recovery time did you need before returning to work? My doc told me to take a week off, but a nurse friend says it’s nowhere near enough.

What’s the point when as a grown-ass adult, you can haul your own fat ass to Baskin Robbins and buy all the ice cream you want?

That was the only sell for a tonsillectomy to the kid.

The word always makes me think of the Brady Bunch episode where both Cindy and Mrs. Brady had to have their tonsils out, and Mrs. Brady calls Mr. Brady's boss's boat a "broken down barnacle barge," because she didn't believe it was him on the phone.

I had them out at 20 or so. No solid food for weeks
Perotonsillar abscesses, an infection behind the tonsils. It's awful.

From what I understand, you’ll need at least a 12-pack of Coors, a razor and a bottle of hydrogen peroxide.

Thanks, jgtbh, was hoping someone might’ve experienced this later than age 10.

Had mine out on New Year's eve, my freshman year in college. Was back in the hospital 2 days later due to swallowing massive amounts of blood.

I've been hospitalized due to emergencies probably 25 times (#klutz) but other than Kidney Stone Round 1, my tonsillectomy was the worst pain I'd ever experienced.

That said, I can count on one hand the number of sore throats I 've had in the subsequent 30 years.

No, mostly due to my trying to be a cross between Reggie White and Greg LeMond!

I've had strep twice since 2012 and an abscess on my tonsil that landed me in the emergency room (nothing in about a year). All what many would consider a lot for an adult.

After the abscess, my EMT said basically they wouldn't recommend an adult getting his tonsils out unless there were six episodes in a year. So while all three of these over more or less five years were awful, one being a major issue, and seemed excessive to me, it still wasn't enough for them to want to remove my tonsils.

I've heard it's absolutely terrible for adults, but also that most problems go away after it.
