Just realized it's Jose Ramirez, not Martinez, so that's at least a little better, but it's still a terrible trade, IMO.

Rookie Freddy Peralta struck out 13 in 5.2IP AT Coors Field. I'm adding him wherever I can.

That is a huge difference. Jose Ramirez is the second-best player in that trade. He is a much better player than Rendon. If you buy into the idea that this is a legitimate breakout by Haniger rather than just another fast start, it's not horrible.

I don't buy into Haniger. Ramirez and Rendon are pretty comparable (at least they were last year), but Ramirez is younger (and I think he will have a better career).

That said, Altuve is, as you noted, a top 10 (probably top 5) player. Whatever difference there is between Ramirez and Rendon doesn't make up for the difference between Altuve and Haniger. It's not a trade I'd veto, but but the guy giving up Altuve is losing this trade pretty badly, IMO.

    Altuve: 23 runs, 2 homers, 17 RBIs, 2 SBs, .306 AVG, .766 OPS

    Haniger: 20 runs, 10 homers, 30 RBIs, 3 SBs, .293 AVG, .960 OPS

Haniger is better than Altuve in 4 of the 6 fantasy categories usually used.

And right now, not far from being better in all 6 categories.

Better put this in for @Dick Whitman ...

    Haniger: 19th in wOBA (.401)

    Altuve: 86th in wOBA (.337)

    And because ...

Altuve has 77 PA's with men on, .343 avg, .826 OPS, 0 homers, 15 RBIs

Haniger has 81 PA's with men on, .290 avg., .968 OPS, 4 homers, 24 RBIs

Would you trade Haniger for Altuve?

    In real life or fantasy?

If your answer is fantasy ... I would keep Haniger.

That said, all of his numbers have been compiled with Cano in the lineup.

The Mariners' dynamic has changed for the next 6-8 weeks.

Fantasy I would still keep Altuve. In real life nobody is making that deal.

I have an opinion on this, but I'm going to offer you Haniger in the Fantasy Addicts league first.

I wonder what Janitors of Anarchy would say if I offered him Haniger for Altuve straight up. Want to help me with the negotiation? :D
