I guess the alterative is to take a long, hard look at my driving habits.
If people are constantly honking at me, maybe I'm doing something dangerous or rude and I should try not to do it so much.
Why would I want to do that?

Have you tried talk radio? Those guys might be happy to help, and you sound like you could fill 40 or 50 minutes ...

In general, from a safety standpoint, you want to drive in a predictable way and at about the same speed as the general flow. As I try to explain to my gf (who drives me nuts), it’s not a good thing for 95% of other drivers trying to pass you.

It's a good thing if you're on an interstate. Get in the middle lane, or right lane if only two, set your cruise control at 75 mph, or 5 mph slower than the rest of the crowd, and you can relax and just drive. Good cushion in front of you, and all the leap-foggers are racing by in the left lane. You don't have to play that leap-frog bullshit anymore this way, and you're still going 75 mph. ... I did the left-lane bullshit for years. This way has much less highway stress.

People who drive too slowly in the fast lane drive—that's my number one driving peeve, and it's not close.

True, although I tend to stay out of the far right lane on interstates with three or more lanes in each direction just to allow room for mergers and not have to deal with them and their variable speeds.

Yeah, but that's a different thing. Get out of the fast lane, I say; it's a rat race of its own.

On a related note, fuck Prius drivers.

If you have three lanes, the middle lane on cruise control at 5 mph slower than the left lane is so fine. Everyone whips by you on the left, and you rarely have to worry about running up on someone in your lane. A nice, big cushion all the time. Try it. ... If only two lanes, you have to pass slower traffic more often, but it's still an easier way to do interstates.
