Penalties for Kneeling Being Considered

It's not even that, though. This issue - largely because of the media coverage over two years - is an absolute pain in the ass. You had players in the league who either barely explained or wouldn't explain at all why they were kneeling.

When the media fawns all over a player showing dissent - no matter how ill-conceived the dissent is - you gotta address it, because the NFL risked having, I dunno, players doing it because it was fashionable.

Stand for the anthem or you shouldn't be in the country. Welcome to the shining city on a hill.

It is not "mandatory." See provisions 2 and 3:

    2. The Game Operations Manual will be revised to remove the requirement that all players be on the field for the Anthem.
    3. Personnel who choose not to stand for the Anthem may stay in the locker room or in a similar location off the field until after the Anthem has been performed.

The NFL will be a lot of fun this year.

Well, sure. I didn't mean to imply otherwise.

Seems to me, a lot of folks who have nothing to lose by doing so, are very interested in applying political and social pressure on African-American players to take a knee.

No, I don’t think we are. I think among the people some athletes care about impressing, we’re right in the middle of it.

There are people who respect Colin Kaepernick more than Ray Lewis. Think about that. And not a few of them are in the national media.

The same is true of Trump on the other side.

This is issue is, truly, a...political football.

I can’t believe @MisterCreosote didn't tell us he’s writing editorials for the Times now.

Rather than show a little backbone themselves and support the right of athletes to protest peacefully, the league capitulated to a president who relishes demonizing black athletes.
