Dafuq? You have it done on a round-the-world cruise, or something?
Those are commonly done for much less. You got rooked.

JR just got home from the hospital last Friday after a triple bypass which included a 10 day stay in the (excellent) Toronto General Hospital, 4 of those days in ICU. He received excellent care, his surgeon was a rock star and we walked out of the hospital without a bill. Very happy to be Canadian.

Free health care is wonderful. Almost like it's magical. Almost like no one pays for anything! It's the most wonderful thing in the world!

Almost like everybody is willing to pay a little more in taxes so everyone is taking care of. Awful way of thinking.

It is also far from perfect but I’ll gladly take it. To each their own.

It's not free or magical. We pay taxes for this but we have one very large insurance pool. Also, our hospitals are not run for profit.

40 bucks? What are you buying?

    But yes it is expensive.

According to this, the average family doctor makes $271,000 a year, the average surgeon $446,000.

How much is your doctor making? What you need to know about Canada’s physician workforce

That's actually higher than I would have guessed. I have a friend who's a surgeon who moved up here from the US, and he's constantly complaining about the pay cut he took. So I can only imagine what he was making down there.

Not a single hospital near me is for profit.

He's doing great thanks but he'll likely be off work 3 months.
