Reading Portnoy's Complaint and stumbled upon this Joe DiMaggio reference and it dawned on me how much he is identified in pop culture.

    1, Portnoy's Complaint
2, Old Man and the Sea
3, Boomtown Rats song Up All Night

    There are many others.

In which books, songs, stories, movies have you seen DiMaggio referenced?

In "Quiz Show," the game show producers tell Charles Van Doren they want him to be an "intellectual Joe DiMaggio."

And he's also referenced in an episode of Seinfeld. Kramer claims to have seen him in a donut shop (DiMaggio supposedly turned down a cameo).

There was a generation that knew him only as Mr. Coffee.

    "What? Joe DiMaggio played baseball?"

I always took the "Say it ain't so, Joe" line in the Boomtown Rats song to be referring to Shoeless Joe Jackson.

  8. Was it Talese who wrote a story on post-retirement DiMaggio, that was similar to "Sinatra has a cold; " as in he got very little time with the old Yankee Clipper.

I may now test positive for trace amounts of cocaine because of that video.
