    Big Star great example.
Mostly a hole in my music-listening palette until recently.
That guy was in the Boxtops - 'The Letter.'

    Wait a minute.
Is the fact that I just recently started getting very into Big Star further evidence that I am actually a hipster?

    I'm 48.
I'm too old to be a hipster.

Do I have to quit my job and start making artisanal dog food?

Never too old. JR has grown out his beard and loves The Avett Brothers so he's clearly a hipster and he's in his late 60s.

Just dead for the last 20 years. And not a Replacements fan, which is by far the greater problem. And you probably don't have Netflix.

The Replacements I've known for a long time. I'm the right age for them.
Big Star I'd heard of but never really bothered to listen to until I put a few songs in a playlist about a month ago.
    Now I'm digging much.

Surprised by it then. Paul loved Alex Chilton and Big Star. Then in the mid-90's there was a mini Big Star revival. I forget which bands or artists were responsible. Alex Chilton released an album then, maybe.
Did you read Trouble Boys? There is a funny line from when the band met Alex Chilton while recording in Memphis. I don't want to ruin it so I get to the library to look it up or find it online.

It must really be tough if the artist/band has become weary of playing their one hit. Either that, or they go all Rundgren and ignore their hits in favor of doing covers of "Patches." America was the same way when I saw them. They could care less what the crowd wanted; you were going to listen to their current cuts or else.

Now, these guys did one-hit wonderism right. :)

    Have not read it.
I was listening to Political Beats and they talked about Big Star in the context of another band. I think it was the Wilco episode.
Anyway I was traveling for work and I thought: I've heard Big Star a bit and I've heard a lot about Big Star for a long time. I need to really give more of a listen.
So I threw a few songs into a playlist with a bunch of other items.
And I was like: How have I not been listening to this for a long time?
Now I've got them salted through multiple playlists and have given a few dedicated listens as well.

Haven't read much about them yet, though.

Not as bad as Lake Shore Dive, which became my obsession through a big chunk of 2017. Completely unrelated to Political Beats. I found them on YouTube and became immersed.
Also the Kinks. I rekindled a very avid interest in them last year after hearing that episode of Political Beats. I thought: I love the Kinks. I've always loved the Kinks. Why don't I listen to the Kinks anymore?

Never heard of Big Star but will now give them provisional status in the Pandora station rotation. Lately I’m more on the hunt for new music bc I am sick and tired of so many bands I used to love.
