If they've been so horribly unfair to us, where's the documentation? Trump pulls this shit out of his ass. Are there parts of the trade deal that work more in their favor? Probably. Do you think that there are not parts that are more favorable to the U.S.?

Trump's talking about banning German luxury automobiles outright. BMW and Mercedes both manufacture cars here. What happens to those workers, and the companies and workers who supply parts to those factories?

If there's a legit problem, talk about it. Show it. Prove it. The country will then support action to change things. This nonsense where Trump simply declares that a problem exists, and that it's a matter of national security so he's declaring a tariff, that's pure huckster bullshit. Tariffs are nothing but a tax on the American public - which are supposed to be legislated by Congress. Trump is once again abusing the system, doing unprecedented things because he can get away with it. He knows that it's a Republican Congress in an election year. No one will say boo to him out of fear of the Trump twitter.

Reminds me of my dad’s old saying, that swearing was “the verbal crutch of a mental cripple.”

Trump's trade war stuff is right out of 1980s Democratic Party. It is not a right-wing tactic. If there's anything that prompts someone to run against him in the 2020 primary, it's stuff like this.

Of course the US has lost jobs and industries because of NAFTA. Of course it has. It's also made our goods cheaper, yes. That it has done. But we've become a service economy to the rich in which some poor people try to live rich - with no savings and no equity and no anything except a 60-inch TV - until they lose it all, then become drug addicts.

It's hardly a secret why OD deaths have become a problem where they've become a problem.

Agreed, but there's just one flaw: Given the number of lies he's told since taking office, if he were to issue a totally truthful report of the trade sins of Canada, Mexico, Europe, ect., no one would believe him. I certainly wouldn't.

If you want to argue that the administration should make a better case for tariffs on Canadian imports, that's fair. It's also very different than telling us we shouldn't impose tariffs on Canada because they're such good neighbors.

The German car thing is based on a thinly sourced story in a German magazine, and is attributed to a conversation between Trump and Macron.

Even if we took strong measures against German auto makers, it wouldn't apply to cars build here.

Congress gave Presidents -- including Trump, and he isn't the only one to use it -- the authority to implement and/or adjust tariffs under certain circumstances. (And did not do a good job of defining these circumstances.

Why Trump can raise steel tariffs without Congress

The reason he said it so much is that I was always swearing.

    This is really funny.

Instead of going nuclear on YF for supporting Trump, people really should consider that he might just be an amusing, self-aware conservative who really likes to debate.
