Made a sacrifice to go on a date night with wifey, almost all screens showing Solo, so slim pickings and went with "The Book Club"; Candice Bergen, Diane Keaton, Mary Steenburgen, Jane Fonda, Don Johnson, Andy Garcia. Hard to believe Jane Fonda is 80! Saw a photo of young Candice Bergen in credits, wow she was definitely an amazing cover girl when she was in her 20's. Some funny lines. Luxury recliner, night out. Not bad.

Jester was a pussy for going below the hard deck to avoid Maverick.

I saw Rivers Edge recently. It was on commercial TV, so it was chopped up and I was jumping around, but it still is impressive. I saw it in the theater when we had to get somebody to buy the tickets for us.
Also saw Donnie Darko again. For some reason I remember the story being more stunning. It may have been because I stopped in the middle and picked up a few hours later.

Paul Dano's directorial debut ... Wildlife

14-year-old Joe is the only child of Jeanette and Jerry—a housewife and a golf pro—in a small town in 1960s Montana. Nearby, an uncontrolled forest fire rages close to the Canadian border, and when Jerry loses his job—and his sense of purpose—he decides to join the cause of fighting the fire, leaving his wife and son to fend for themselves. Suddenly forced into the role of an adult, Joe witnesses his mother’s struggle as she tries to keep her head above water.

Game Night. Very funny. Great cast and perfect Netflix fare.

I've seen every Paul Anderson movie, but Phantom Thread...I just don't see the big whoop. More interesting if you imagine the female lead actually kills Daniel Day Lewis and is "explaining herself" throughout the movie to a court-appointed shrink for a psych eval.

And Prof. Marsten and the Wonder Women is the best movie from the last year you've never heard about. Great date night flick and a fascinating accounting of the origin of Wonder Woman.

With an extra off day this week, I went and saw "Solo," aware of some lukewarm reviews, and I loved it. I guess I really was fascinated by Han's back story (and I loved how him and Chewie met), and Ehreneich did a pretty good job IMO. Add to that some good action/battle scenes, and it was an enjoyable couple of hours.

And, of course, Donald Glover just killed it as Lando. I would welcome a Lando movie if they decide to pursue it.

I have no idea why Battle of the Sexes didn't do better. Did Fox market it like an indie film? Any movie starring Emma Stone and Steve Carrell should break $20 mil at the box office. And this was a very entertaining film about an important subject. I grew up back then and didn't appreciate how revolutionary King was, and bought Riggs act (he might be the original troll). Throw in King carrying women's professional tennis on her back, knowing if she came out and ended her marriage she'd bring the tour down and put a dent in the women's movement. Big stuff.

    Heard of it.
Didn't see it, but heard of it. Seemed pretty well promoted at release, although it definitely faded quickly
