Patti Davis was appalled by her father’s presidency.

Another one of your dopey dodgeball tactics, so let's get back to the relevant message here ...

Countries can be splintered from within, he would say. It’s a sinister form of destruction that can happen gradually if people don’t realize that our Constitution will protect us only if the principles of that document are adhered to and defended. He would be appalled and heartbroken at a Congress that refuses to stand up to a president who not only seems ignorant of the Constitution but who also attempts at every turn to dismantle and mock our system of checks and balances.

He would plead with Americans to recognize that the caustic, destructive languageemanating from our current president is sullying the dream that America once was. And in a time of increased tensions in the world, playing verbal Russian roulette is not leadership, it’s madness. He would point to one of the pillars of our freedom — a free press — which sets us apart from dictatorships and countries ruled by despots. He didn’t always like the press — no president does — but the idea of relentlessly attacking the media as the enemy would never have occurred to him. And if someone else had done so, he wouldn’t have tolerated it.

He would ask us to think about the Statue of Liberty and the light she holds for immigrants coming to America for a better life. Immigrants like his ancestors, who persevered despite prejudice and signs that read “No Irish or dogs allowed.” There is a difference between immigration laws and cruelty. He believed in laws; he hated cruelty.

"Republicans" who chanted "drain the swamp" and "lock her up" suddenly support freeing Blagojevich's release is totally the same as Democrats doing it!

Political corruption and the excusing of it through presidential pardon (Trump) or through intrigue, as in a 40-minute private meeting on an airport tarmac (Clinton), has a cost.

It’s not about money. It’s about infection.

Trump dangling pardons as he himself is under investigation in the Mueller Russia collusion probe is full of theatrical drama. It’s fascinating in the way political intrigue among the powerful is always fascinating, like a game of thrones. It is the true pastime of Washington.

And Washington is our modern Versailles, just as sick as the palace of the French royals but without the rouge and powdered wigs and countertenors.

The powerful don’t bear the cost of corruption. They know the game. They understand it. They’re good at it. They write the rules. They know how to bend them. They’re the masters of our universe.

But you are not a master of the universe. You are a taxpayer. And you think about wanting to follow the rules until you see some politician, Democrat or Republican, getting away with things you’d go to jail for doing.

The infection grows. Resentment builds and it turns to poison. It’s dangerous. Ask the French.

Who the fuck was clamouring for Blagojevich's sentence to be commuted? Doesn't everyone agree he was corrupt in office? The vote to impeach him was 114-1. It crossed party lines. Corruption should have consequences. If that's something that there is disagreement about in America, then you're even more fucked than you seem.

    Exactly.

But since Trump is for it, then some folks suddenly have to defend it.

Unless there's a valid fucking reason, which some prominent Dems say there are.

Especially after Bob McDonnell's conviction was overturned, it's hard to look at Blago's as anything but criminalizing politics.

He was brazen about it, but he did what politicians do every day.

Yeah, Durbin and Holder are for it because Trump is.

People, wake up, if you want to live in a country where the President is not subject to rule of law, who believes "I can pardon myself", then go to China, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Iran, etc. That's not what the Framers intended, and that's not the history and legal education that's been given in our country in my 55 years. Whatever my political leanings/bias/feelings I would never support someone who said and believes this. Voters, this must end ASAP.

Look around at all the economic wealth in our country and the disposable income, yes it is not equally distributed, and people are truly suffering, but its dependent on one fundamental aspect of our country, the rule of law. Free markets require this. If there is no fairness (go ahead argue about the margins but the US has more fairness than any other major country), then our country will crumble.
