Leaving the EU is a magnificent thing for Britain. Should have done it long ago. Actually, that reprobate Ted Heath should be dug up and flogged for getting into the EEC in the first place.

Have you been to the UK? If so, when?

Not that I want to risk outing myself at all, but I lived there for quite a while.

Pre- or post-EU? I don't think that will out you. I just want to get a sense of whether you've been there since London became, like, basically the capital city of the world. Because I don't know how you can be in today's London and think: Needs less vibrancy. Or how a British person might look at the rest of Europe and think: Wish it was harder for me to go there.

I mean, this week on this board has shown me that people think strange fucking things. But I want to know why you think what you think about the UK and the EU. If you don't mind explaining. Because there might be a good argument I can't see. All I know, being from there, and visiting there and Europe often... It seems really dumb, leaving.

Let's just say Heath, Wilson, Callaghan and Thatcher.

It was a different era, I suppose, before rampant internationalism rendered the London I loved into just another shitty city like all the other shitty cities. Probably hypocritical for an American to bemoan the Americanization of Britain, but that's what started the slide. Sure, it was nice to be able to go to a McDonald's instead of fuckin' Wimpy, and even eventually snag a decent burrito at one of the pioneer places, but the more the tide came in, the more detritus it brought.

Europe? I hate "Europe" and all it stands for. I like Belgium and Italy and Switzerland and Denmark and Spain, but individually. Together? Nah. The visits I have made more recently were disheartening in some ways, because it's hard to find much that makes each place unique. Now, it's all mega-corporations and hustlers trying to grab the money out of your pocket before they squeeze your nuts to dust.
