Media Details on College Football Playoff 2019

I cover a team that regularly makes the playoffs ... we sometimes prospect on airline flights early to get cheaper rates ... using Southwest you can always cancel and re-use that credit anytime in the next year (i.e. for conference basketball tournament or NCAA next spring, in this case).

I bring this up because the CFB Playoff championship is at the 49ers Stadium in Santa Clara on Jan. 7, 2019.

Santa Clara is a northern suburb of San Jose, well south of San Francisco.

Passing on this info for college football media who could be attending the playoff championship ...

The media hotel is the San Jose Marriott, it will be $275 a night

That hotel is at 301 S Market St, San Jose, CA 95113 … 9 miles from the stadium, 4 miles to the San Jose Airport, 36 miles to the San Fran airport.

The fan central at the convention center looks like 2 blocks away the media day at the SAP Center is 1 mile away.

Southwest flies into San Fran (not bad rate right now, though their sked is only open to Jan. 6, so no return yet) as well as San Jose and Oakland.

My feeling is fly into San Jose, even if it is a little more, because you likely would not need a rental with everything being so close (and shuttles likely to media day and the game).

Been to probably 20-some bowl games and 4 championship games in my time, so always looking for best logistical fits.

Now just need the team I cover to win it next 13 games LOL

You'll be much better off flying into San Jose, if you can. Significantly shorter drive, and I've always felt the traffic wasn't as bad. In Oakland, you're across the bay and are going to have to deal with bridge tolls, traffic and blah blah. SFO isn't terrible, but San Jose is an easy airport to deal with.

Just recognize that San Jose has an evening curfew...in case that timing matters

Only need to deal with tolls if going to San Francisco from Oakland. It's a straight shot down I-880 (or to be old school, Highway 17) or I-680 to San Jose. But agreed, San Jose is easier to fly into and sounds like most activities will be there, unlike the Super Bowl when they split things between San Jose and San Francisco.

San Jose definitely is the better option. You won't be able to get out that night after the game, even with a 5:20 p.m. kickoff because of the curfew.

I figure Stanford will be one of the team practice sites, SJ State the other?
And if anyone is staying in SF and travelling to SJ during the day - use 280 instead of 101. Might not be that much better, but it is better.
