I'd like to have the Church of WhatAboutism burned at the stake.

Two wrongs don't make a right. Two thousand traumatized kids deserve better treatment from a "Christian" nation.

He better be hugging it. He's endangering their cheap labor supply.

But it does matter. As much as everybody claims to hate Whataboutism, it would never need to exist if people didn't cling to their party right or wrong all the time.

If we "weren't paying attention" then (and I'm as fucking guilty as anybody), WHY weren't we? Because MSNBC didn't tell us to? Because your Facebook feed echo chamber contained NONE of it? Is that really what it's come to? There is rotten shit going on all the time, but if (at least) 50 percent of the country ALWAYS turns a blind eye to it, how does it ever get stopped?

Because it wasn't fucking happening. That's why.

Bush chose to not detain families with children.
Obama chose to detain the families together and not separate the children.
Trump announced a "zero tolerance" policy with taking away the children as a central facet. They announced at the time that they were going to take the kids. The people who claim it's always been like this are blowing smoke up your ass. These camps opened when the "zero tolerance" policy went into effect.

Probably because no one was completely sure it was even happening until years later?

And, by “it,” I mean placing the children with traffickers.

Even if this were the case, why is that bad for America? It's more people shopping for more goods in the United States.

Am I missing something here? Cross-border shopping was once viewed as a real threat to the Canadian economy, not the American one.
