I wonder if Miller realizes the clips of Trump administration officials defending this action will be on a loop in October. My guess is that it is modified to some extent. The NYT podcast (where the interview was supposed to be played) provided some good context. Kids can't be held in custody so they have to be "placed." Parents can be held until their asylum hearing (which often can take over a year). In the past, families were given a TBA notice to appear and sometimes never showed for their hearing after being released into the US. This was the Trump solution. Kelly thought about it last year when he was head of the DHS, but figured the politics and visuals would be bad.

 

They're saying the same thing at the White House.
