The funny part is Time already has on their next cover, a picture of this girl crying and Trump looking down at her. And now we find out she was never separated from her mother. And people are still dumb enough to fall for this fake outrage. This planet has no shortage of idiots.

She left 2 kids and a husband who had a good job to come to America.

They come here because of our handouts. They come here and begin receiving all kinds of aid. There are groups in those countries who teach people how to apply for aid in the US, how to get around certain loopholes, what to say, what not to say. I see it all the time. Every day. Somehow it's the American taxpayer that must provide for the world, and if we don't, we are somehow heartless. Every other country can have merit based immigration but us. That's how stupid and illogical the argument is.

 

I wish this place had a "Haha" option in addition to the "Like" option.

I'm comfortable guessing that evangelical Christians are doing more work in helping immigrants/refugees acclimate to America than any other secular group. In a true fit of political schizophrenia, they'd vote for Trump and simultaneously serve refugees.

Spiritual formation, if done correctly, develops Christians who resist autocrats like Trump.

Churches are absolutely split on this. And you'll see many emerging churches from hereon preaching against callous nature of Trump's era.

You're also seeing churches being careful with it in part because some big givers in a church are the same "older brother" types that voted down the line for Trump. And church leaders - well, sincere ones - desire a way to figure out "OK, how the heck did you get to that choice, man? Where'd our teaching miss the mark?"

Trump's presidency is a conviction of broader American evangelical leadership and yet a great opportunity. Christians (like myself) who have inveighed against the Republican Party for years when the party trotted out friendly faces like Reagan and W as politico puppets don't have to work very hard to make our arguments right now. It's easy. All the venal, amoral fuckers lurking in the details of the Reagan/W presidencies manifested themselves into one, massive fucker right at the top. You see, we're able to say. Divest yourself!
