I'm sorry, but lamenting about the quality of today's journalists entering the workforce based on how a bunch of Harvard kids behave is like saying burgers are dead because you had one at the Ritz Carlton that was overcooked. Not an accurate representation of most of the workforce. Kinda like how, yknow, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez just won by a landslide.

Sounds to me like Jill's had one too many students trying to write the next "Kentucky Derby is Decadent and Depraved" despite lacking a fraction of Hunter S. Thompson's talent or personality and she's about had it up to here.

And then finally came the verdict on Friday, and not a sound was heard as Johnson was sentenced to three life terms plus 200 years for the brutal ax murders of his wife and their two infant children.

Johnson barely blinked as he was led out of the courtroom, though the rest of us in attendance looked hungry for any kind of explanation for his despicable crimes. And that, of course, reminded me that I was hungry again for the wonderful stir-fry pork with onions, peppers and yow-yow sauce I had last night at Dino's Diner across the street from this stately courthouse in Podunk Pines. A house specialty!

Family members sobbed as they were led out. I burped a little and resolved to have more of that yow-yow sauce.

    In the faintest of ways.

    Of course.

    But it's still a first-person story.

So the question isn't whether or not a story is written in the first person, but how and to what degree is that story really about the author.

Yes, there seems to be a lot of first person in reporting these days — and the majority of it isn't necessary at all.

Another interesting test case on first-person. Granted, this story really wouldn't work without it, but still.
