What's wrong with coming here for economic reasons? What if they had, say, a potato famine?

Is that legitimate? Do hungry kids count? Dunno how that works, but maybe we can use history as a guide.

Famine is very different than simply coming here for better economic opportunities.

And, look, obviously people want to seek better economic situations for themselves and their families. I don't blame someone for wanting to come here. But, that doesn't make you a refugee, by the internationally recognized definition of the term.

That's the point of having the hearing. How else are you going to find out if the claim is valid?

Everybody's had to fight to be free. You see, you don't have to live like a refugee.

OK. So, what percentage had their claims validated in 2017? In 2016?

    This is public information.

Honestly, if folks are concerned about refugees with legitimate claims, who are fleeing for their safety, I don't know why there isn't more frustration at those who would make false claims, which only ties up the system, delaying the process for those who can't go home.

So the answer is to assume every claim is false and turn them away?

Don't be a dummy. Hungry kids are hungry kids.

Most of these families are paying smugglers thousands of dollars to get them to the border.

They may come from impoverished countries, but that doesn’t mean they are starving.

And look, if you want to change our immigration laws, go ahead and work towards it. But what you are proposing would mean virtually open borders, and is not supported by your fellow citizens.
