NHL uses overtime and a shootout.

Don't they do that to let both teams play at home? The World Cup is already at a neutral site.

American English collective nouns are singular. Belgium, being the team playing, is a collection of players and takes the singular verb. If you're in the UK collective nouns are plural. So in the US Belgium is playing Brazil; in the UK Belgium are playing Brazil.

Of course, but it's not as if shootouts don't exist in other big league sports.

Yes, but in the NHL any good goalie is better than 70% in shootouts. In soccer you stop two PKs and people think you deserve to win.
But guess it's not easy for the shooter since this year it's only 63% instead of the typical 80%.

If someone's only exposure to the NFL was watching the Super Bowl every fourth year but kept insisting that the game would be so much better if you could make unlimited forward passes each play, football fans would get fucking tired of it.

    Jesus christ.

I am entertained to death by a full 90, and extra 60, then a shootout. I don't care what the percentage is.

Still waiting for the "why do they need offsides?" post. Come on, guys. I know you can do it.

They never used to have penalty kicks. They never had unlimited forward passes, not even in the XFL. So someone thinking the rule on penalty kicks
could use amending isn't really close to someone thinking unlimited passes should be allowed.

Meanwhile an unlucky deflection by a Swiss defender puts Sweden up 1-0.
