Cousins went to Ws; Ws didn’t recruit him because they thought he was out of price range.

This system is same for everyone; Ws used to get excited because opportunity to TALK to DeAndre as a FA; Indy/PHX/Orl/SAC were more attractive FA destinations; before IGGY biggest FA signing was Maggette let that marinate.

Get smart and build a team and people will come. Don’t change the system, look in mirror.

if you are interested in Boogie Cousins, why would you be waiting around?

Sounds like Boogie worked his own deal. Unsure how much agent involvent went into this once Green, Durant and Boogie started talking.

Does GS get an edge when resigning him?

Igoudala was also technically a sign and trade. Maybe David Lee too.

They can pay him up to 20 percent more than he’s getting next year.

    So not really.

He's really unlikely to stay there.

Golden State is in salary cap HELL. I'm not great on the details, but basically the longer you stay over the cap the worse the penalty is. They have Klay and Draymond up next year, both looking for max deals. The Warriors can do it... but it will mean paying something like $250 - $300 million a year with the salaries and tax penalties combined.

That puts them in a spot. They could ask players to take less, but good luck -- Durant's kind of a simp in that regard, and I don't see the other three doing it. It would not shock me if Klay is gone in a year. Or, they could just bite the bullet and pay it -- they're probably not thrilled with the idea of breaking up the Splash Brothers as they move into a new building.

Regardless, I can't imagine they're paying anything close to what another team offers Boogie, assuming Boogie can still play at a high level. (And that's a huge assumption.)

OKC is paying that this year.

Yeah, they're in a brutal spot. $55 million over the cap right now. At least they lose Carmelo in a year.
