Two episodes in and it’s still pretty compelling. Lacks some of the characters of EMCC but as a whole the caliber of student seems a step higher than EMCC. The coach seems more genuine and interesting than Buddy, but with some faults. The English professor is probably my favorite person so far. Hope they dig into her story; how did she end up in SE KANSAS from Atlanta?

Haven’t watched yet and probably won’t until next weekend, but there is no way I could have watched another season if it was EMCC. Buddy Stephens is every redneck blowhard asshole I can’t stand.

Don’t worry, there’s another brand of blowhard asshole waiting.

I'm halfway through the new season, and I have to figure one guy who's enjoying this, if he's watching, is Buddy Stephens. This Jason Brown guy makes him look like the second coming of Lombardi. I'm looking at the way he runs this program and am amazed they can even win a game, despite all the talent he has.
Although he ended up eating a ton of crow, I laughed when the Garden City coach referenced the Michael Keaton movie "Multiplicity" and likened the Independence program to "about the eighth version of us."

Man, I felt bad for the unpaid QB coach.

I'm three episodes in, and yeah, what a bunch of clowns.

There are a few kids I'm rooting for ... the DB who wants to do well in school but doesn't know how, the third-string RB who lights it up every time he's in the game but is stuck behind two bigger-name recruits, the center with the bad shoulder.

But damn, just based on the coach and the QB, I'd wish for them to go 0-10.

First episode of this season. Right at the beginning, the first practice, some old guy drives up near the field. He takes a lawn chair out of his car and sits to watch practice. He has this gizmo strapped around him which holds a black disk on his chest. I don't think he's acting Iron Man. What the hell is that??

Some type of heart-rate monitor/transmitter, I would guess.

One of the sub-themes of this show must be Awful Childhoods Just Keep On Giving. Watching Brown rage in his offices or out on the field, I couldn't help but think the guy was channeling his alcoholic father. It clicked for me when he would occasionally turn on Happy Daddy from time to time.

Of course, editing has a lot to do with perceptions but Malik Henry also seemed like a study in self-sabotage. He probably had some talent as a QB but he was just sick of football, of having it force-fed to him all his life. But he'll have to crash out of JUCO and ruin his life instead of telling his Dad no.

Malik Henry came right out and said he suffers from depression, not that it wasn't obvious anyway. And best as I can tell nobody thought for a second he needed to see a doctor or at least bring in a sports psychologist.

Glad there is a thread on this...

Stephens removing the o-coordinator from the field was so fucking shitty. To me, that is in the conversation for worst things he has done.

I also thought Brittany was banging someone. Glad she wasn’t.

Good to know a man in Scooba has the lion roar down pat.

Loved seeing the stars from season 1, and Ollie saying “fuck that guy” just opened up season 2 nicely.

Looking foreword to watching season 3 when I get back home.

I would have lost money on the Stephens Heart Attack over under.

Given their final record, it’s a reminder that not every lesson in life can be taught by Sports. Because you could learn 2-3 interesting lessons.

That said, the language doesn’t put me off much. Par for the course in many football programs. Maybe not the bigger ones where the players are treated pretty well, but a lot of programs function in similar ways
