About 1200. 300 per grade, more or less.

Tonight DaughterQuant closed out (I'm fairly certain) her volleyball career with her JV team's last match of the season. Her team was ridiculously good this year -- 28-1, with first-place finishes in three tournaments and only four dropped sets for the season -- and she was a solid contributor on the right side. She never did anything spectacular, but she really never had a bad stretch either. She played well tonight — couple of nice kills, two blocks, one joust won and no hitting errors — which was a nice way to go out.

MommaQuant and I are taking it way harder than her ...

Not to step on the doctor's toes, but I wanted to get some advice on our own child. My oldest son has been doing pretty well in his local Little League ever since we moved out here - usually the best or second-best kid on his team in a pretty competitive league, albeit at the younger ages - and today we got approached by a startup travel team to play in the fall. I'm waiting on more information (cough, cough, what does it cost, cough, cough), but I'm told that, despite the travel moniker, they'll be staying in our local area.

What should I be looking out for here? Smaller Circus is 8, big for his age and knows what he's doing on the field. He's been a successful hitter through machine pitch but has not played kid pitch. He says he'd like to try pitching (he's a righty) and seems to his non-expert dad that he at least has a chance to be good at it. Other than exorbitant prices, are there other red flags I should be looking out for?

I have no business posting on this thread, but it seems to me any upside that could come from being on a travel team at 8 could just as easily happen in 2 years...but the downside of said could wreck havoc for years.

In other words, I agree with SpeedTchr.

Cannot emphasize enough DO NOT DO IT. Especially if he is or wants to be a pitcher.

    Age 12 at the earliest.

Does he play other sports in the fall? If he does I wouldn't do it, he's far to young to specialize.

If not, then, to me it all depends on how it is run. Do you trust the coach, is he a teacher or a screamer? If in the end you trust the people running it, you can afford it and most of all your son enjoys it, go ahead.
