Put it this way then - Xi knows that he is going to remain in power, and that Trump has the long term planning skill and attention span of a gnat. He can afford to be patient and wait for opportunities to develop.

 

It's a good number. Let's talk after next quarter's numbers come out. This report had a buying binge on soy before the tariffs started, and it also had a ton of corporate money from the tax changes that went into stock buy backs.

Let's revisit it in three months.

 

China doesn't have to bother with retaliatory tariffs. It can just let its currency depreciate again to wipe out the impact of the tariffs on their US customers. Meanwhile, its completely arbitrary and opaque system of laws has a zillion different ways to make it more expensive for US businesses to operate in China. They can do these things, and Trump will just notice no Chinese tariffs and claim victory.

 

They are already doing both. Currency is dropping. They're putting containers through extra customs inspections, delaying shipments, and playing bureaucratic games.

 

This isn't a gay joke. This is a transgender joke.
