Had a fried-egg sandwich tonight. Pretty tough to top that.

Having moved down South a few years ago, my parents now fully expect anyone headed their way from NJ will fill half their trunk with Pechter’s Jewish rye bread from the bakery in Harrison (and the other half with “real” bagels) to freeze and eat for months.

We’ve lived south of the Mason Dixon Line and north of Virginia for 40years.
Goldberg’s bagels in pikesville md are good. There a place in Ocena City and Severna Park called, Uber Bagels, that are good. And a bread bakery in Savage Maryland called Bonaparte’s that makes great bread, though not a real Jewish rye. (They also claim to be part of the Napoleon Bonaparte linieage.

I don’t know what it is but pizza, bagels, bread, cookies, deli meats and hero’s subs and sandwiches are better in most towns in Northern NJ, NYC and Long Island than anywhere else.

Not sure there's a better bread for sandwiches or toast than tangy sourdough.

Sourdough French toast is the best. Cut the slices REAL thick.

    Love a good sourdough

There's a new food truck place near me that serves just grilled cheese, almost all on sourdough. There are a million places like it, I know, but the menu has me drooling.

One sandwich is a jalapeno popper, with cream cheese, pickled jalapenos, bacon and cheddar cheese, and the one that makes me woozy is a pizza sub, with sauce, pepperoni, mozzarella, basil and oregano on sourdough.

I'd set that truck up downtown on weekend nights, sit back and just print money.

    Cubano. Hold the pickle.
Nothing beats Cuban bread, pressed hot.

I just had two tomato sandwiches. White bread, cheddar, Duke's and a sprinkle of Trader Joe's everything but the bagel seasoning. I miss growing tomatoes and being able to do that every day for a few months.

There'a a French bakery on the other side of town. Buy one of their baguettes, and slice ripe farmer's market tomatoes to put on top of homemade tarragon chicken salad sandwiches. That's dinner tonight. No cooking due to excess humidity.
