When "real wages" are calculated, aren't they accounting for inflation, including the cost of housing?

And, aren't California's biggest problems Prop 13, and the regulations that make building new housing difficult?

I wonder why so many people are saying this now, and how many of them would be saying this if Clinton had won.

You don’t? You should read more broadly, then. I think those are often condemned by (smart) people on both the right and left. See, e.g., stadium deals, which are routinely criticized.

I also think the soybean subsidy is dumb.

Abolish regulations that make it difficult to build, and consider ditching rent controls and similar laws that have distorting effects.

The wage/rent problem isn't exclusive to California. That's sort of her premise.

And the fact that rent now eats up a much bigger chunk of earnings is partially offset by lower prices on other goods.

America’s inflation problem isn’t high wages, it’s high rent

NYC is a good example of a booming luxury market, without much of an increase in "affordable housing."

“Trickle-down housing policy doesn’t work,” she said. “What we have in New York City at this point is a glut at the top end of the market that has not resulted in rents coming down or burdens being alleviated at the lower ends of the market. It’s resulted in high-vacancy at the top end of the market.”

Housing boom has not alleviated cost crunch – yet
