Whenever I encounter a supporter of this President on social media now, or scan the crowds at his propaganda rallies, or see his surrogates bloviating on talk shows or pounding upon pulpits, I am left with the same conclusion: they are a people bereft of joy.

There is no happiness, no benevolence, nothing life-giving left there.

The emotional deficit is continually on display:

In their contorted, sneering countenance; in their so readily brandished middle finger; in their steady spit shower of verbal filth. With each angry gesture and with every slandering epithet, they reveal in high-definition detail what it looks like when someone loses the light inside them.

War does this to the human heart. These people are at war with the world. ...

These are the wildest of ironies: Their President is in the White House, their politicians commandeer the House and Senate, the Supreme Court is tilted on their favor—and yet they still manage to feel themselves oppressed, still picture the world unfair, still rage against a machine they’ve made and are part of. So many of them claim faith in Jesus, and yet live in almost polar opposition to his example.

There is a martyr on this board who fits this exact description. Absolutely bereft of joy.

I find it interesting that each side accuses the other of being miserable all the time, of having no joy in anything, of always complaining. The right are a bunch of backward racists, afraid of anyone who looks or sounds different. So how can they ever be happy? The left are all victims of one thing or another, so how can they ever be happy?

Let's just call it a tie.

Where's Russia on that chart? Is vodka all they have?

Not everyone necessarily agrees on right and wrong. Generally, the idea is that one should be able to do what they
wish as long others or society as a whole isn't harmed.

Now, some people believe the fetus is an other. The contradiction, though, is that another person cannot demand use of a person's body without consent, and if the fetus is truly another person, then why should they get special rights? And if that precedent is set, then why wouldn't there be other special rights involving a pregnancy, such as the right to terminate it?

I, for one, am glad Trump is looking out for Americans by reducing our ability to travel more on a single tank of gasoline and thus protecting us from car accidents.

    Since you asked . . . .

Sales of antidepressants in Russia were less than $0.03 billion during the first 10 months of 2016 (according to the Russian Association of Pharmacy Chains).
Sales in the US reached $9.6 billion in 2016.

Depression is kind of a cultural stigma there, so it's no surprise people are hesitant to seek medication. Maybe vodka is their medicine of choice. But you're missing the point.

Based on all the stereotypes, Russians have every reason in the world to be depressed.

    What's America's excuse?

Does Russian TV bombard viewers with ads for prescription medicine, telling them "Ask your doctor if XXXX is right for you?"
